May Day 2026 – Talks & Archaeology Open House

£5.00

Step into the history of Otford Palace this May Day!

Join us for a warm, community‑focused celebration at one of Kent’s most fascinating heritage sites. Enjoy our £5 guided talk-based tours, and explore a hands‑on archaeology display.  Every ticket sold and every donation directly supports our conservation work.  Children (15 or under) go free (must be accompanied by an adult).

On Monday 4th May, three sessions will be led by our knowledgeable volunteer guides. You’ll discover:

  • The history of the Archbishop’s Palace
  • Tudor connections and architectural features
  • Recent archaeological discoveries
  • Behind‑the‑scenes insights into the site’s conservation

All three of the planned tours are now fully booked.  However, in view of the success of this event, we are planning a further Open Day later this summer.  Please watch out for posters and social media notices

Yes, advance booking is strongly recommended, especially for the talks. Each has limited capacity. On‑the‑day tickets will only be available if space allows.

How long does each talk last?

Sessions last approximately 45–60 minutes, including time for questions.  The Tower talk is 30 minutes, and the Gateshouse talk is 15 minutes.

Parts of Otford Palace have uneven ground due to the historic nature of the site. If you have specific access needs, please contact us in advance — we’ll do our very best to help.

What should I wear?

The site is mostly outdoors, however talks take place indoors. We recommend sturdy footwear, warm layers, and waterproof clothing if the weather looks changeable.

The event will go ahead in most weather conditions, with cover provided for some activities. In the event of severe weather that affects safety, specific sessions may be rescheduled or refunded.
